Piracy Affects You
Piracy or Copying affects the future of our young people. Piracy - or copying other people's work - will ultimately harm you or others in that people devalue the work and think creativity is not worth anything - hence loss of jobs.
What are you really burning?
Burning, buying or downloading pirated movies or television shows many appear harmless, but it costs the Australian film industry over $230m every year, putting Aussie jobs at risk as well the future of Australian films.
The film industry thanks those who support the real thing by enjoying film & TV shows legally at the cinema, DVD and on TV. See more at IPA Awareness
Downloading illegal copies can cost you a job
A person's colleague boasted of downloading a new movie (before it was released in Australia). Answering his query on where they got it, the answer was "I downloaded it from an illegal site". He challenged their moral beliefs and the reply was, "Well, someone else downloaded it, not me. I just watched it." How misguided.
This is just one example of how people think it doesn't matter.
It DOES matter ... other people have spent so much time, money and effort to create something for our enjoyment. Creatives need to be paid and their work worth something if they are going to create more.
NOTE: Purchasing or using a pirated DVD or CD ultimately harms you because there will be less and less work, opportunities and payment for people within the creative industries required to produce those movies or music.
There is a scripture that says 'the worker is worthy of his reward'. Valuing a person's work, including creative, is so important for both our society and employment.
Please do not buy or sell pirated DVDs or CDs or illegal downloads.
What if I edit a picture or image slightly?
Copying an image or music or any creative work and changing it slightly does not make any difference. It is still a breach of copyright if you have not purchased the rights to use it try to pass it off as your own.
Our kids need jobs in the future - what happens to those in creative industries when there are no jobs because piracy or copying has made those jobs redundant?
People are thinking about how one small change can help the environment - the same thing applies to changing piracy. Let people know it's wrong. If you don't wish to go out to the movie theatre, then wait and rent a movie from the DVD-video shop when it is released. But don't give into piracy.
Either yourself, or someone you know, will be affected by it.

Piracy or Copying is the act of stealing an artist's work without any intention of paying for it.
Piracy is taking artwork, music, movies, photos, web images - and using it without payment or permission. That is stealing. It's time we all took a stand for our futures and the future of our children.
