The Kite Runner (M)
“There is a way to be good again.”
Based on one of the most acclaimed novels in recent memory, THE KITE RUNNER is a profoundly emotional tale of friendship, family, devastating mistakes and redeeming love. Now, after 20 years of living in America, Amir returns to a perilous Afghanistan under the Taliban’s iron-fisted rule, to face the secrets that still haunt him and take one last daring change to set things right.
I was mesmerized by this movie - it is very true to the book. Yes, there are some things left out or shortened, but overall a very true rendition.
It is an important story - although the story of the two boys is fiction, it has true events interspersed in the story and is written by a person who actually lived through the terror of those times as a child and escaped.
A movie well worth seeing. (Definitely not suitable for children.)

One Night With the King (PG)
This was a very surprising movie and one I enjoyed very much. As a child in Sunday School I couldn't comprehend some of the Bible stories of the Old Testament. This story is about a very strong young woman who changed her name to Esther (as in the Old Testament Book of Esther), and the movie helps shed some light on many of the events that shaped the constant harrassment throughout the ages of the Jewish race.
With Peter O’Toole and Omar Sharif.
Inspirational historical movie chronicles the life of the young Jewish girl, Hadassah, who goes on to become the Biblical Esther and one who saves her people from destruction, heralding the custom of Purim.
It is beautifully filmed and one can only marvel at the old architecture of Persia and be moved by the events of those times.
Mild violence. 126 mins.
