Recycling

PRODUCTS OF CARTRIDGE RECYCLING

The components that make up cartridges are actually valuable, non-renewable materials that can be used by a wide range of industries to make new products. Some of the recovered materials are reused for the following:

Toner - Pigment colour agent for the production of eWood - a plastic timber replacement product.

Aluminium - Smelting into new aluminium products.

Steel - Smelting into new steel products, such as structural steel beams for building.

Inkjet inks - Used in the production of eWood.

Plastics - Plastics are currently granulated, filtered and made into eWood being commercialised for a range of industrial applications

Helping save our environment

Recycling and trying to keep carbon emissions low

Unicorn Graphics may be small, but we do our best to help the environment - we choose to recycle and choose recyclable products whenever possible or practical.

Wherever possible, (with the exception of our playing cards and some poster prints), we use laser paper/card that has a mixture of recycled paper, and recycle all waste paper, packaging and our laser cartridges both in business and at home.

We also recycle bottles, newspaper and more and use calico or paper bags wherever possible or practical.

Even the wallets we use for our custom playing cards are made from recyclable plastic in Australia and they themselves are again recyclable.

We try to use resources from responsible suppliers.

Printing

Our quality, high-end, postscript laser printer for inhouse printing has a low melting rate for toners and powers down after 30 minutes of non-use using less than 45w in powersave mode. A unique spherical toner means Virtually no toner scatter, with sharper, crisper characters. Being able to fuse the toner to the paper at lower temperatures, the printer uses no extra power to fuse the toner to the paper thus contributing to preserving the environment.

Paper sizes go from DL to oversize A3 including banners 325 x 900mm and paper weights up to 268gsm.

For large print runs we source trade printers who act responsibly and print within Australia encouraging more jobs for Australians. Printing on 'green' recycled paper and card is always an option for customers.

Computers and electricity

Our late model computers and printers automatically power down within half an hour if we are called away. We turn off the monitors when we leave the office - even when making a cuppa, or when not in use.

We use low energy light bulbs and always turn off lights when leaving rooms.

Our gas heating and air conditioners are only used when needed - they are not permanently on - and fresh breezes are invited through open windows instead.

Australian made

Our preferred supplies are made in Australia.

Couriers - avoiding unnecessary travel

We use couriers whenever possible to avoid single delivery runs and to help the environment, as well as keeping other people employed.

Phone and internet consultation

We converse with clients and customers predominantly via the phone and email, thereby avoiding extra petrol use. We have also done some teleconferencing with colleagues overseas and for training purposes.
